At 8:11 p.m., first responders in Lakewood responded to Leisure Park Senior Living Facility at 1140 Route 70 East after a fire on the 5th floor, the Lakewood Police Department said.

One patient was transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning, police said.  Due to the activation of the building’s fire suppression sprinkler system, a partial evacuation was carried out, temporarily displacing 39 residents, police said.

The American Red Cross was on scene to assist, and Leisure Park was able to accommodate them in the vacant areas of the facility, police said. Ocean County Fire Marshall is currently investigating the cause and origin of the blaze, police said.
